August 7, 2012

Finished the south end of the upper retaining wall. Easy peasy, relatively speaking.
The biggest problem was the green fiberglass sheeting that my grandfather used as a barrier. It was heavily buried and brittle with age. I couldn't just pull it out of the ground; I had to dig it out. ARGH! It's one of those weird balances in life. My grandfather showed so much foresight and practicality in some things, the waterlines; in others, such as this, not so much. I kept finding chunks that did not follow the original cinderblock line. I don't know how that happened. I believe that there are chunks still buried.
In the image below, one can see the fiberglass in it's original position.
In this image below, one, including myself, would assume that all of it has been been removed. As the previous image showed, I was horribly wrong.

WOW! I can't believe how quickly that gourd vine grew!

The watermelon isn't a joke, either! These plants sure made a recovery after being transplanted. I hope that I get some watermelons from them. It's very late in the season.

The sunflowers are still looking good. The bees love them. This makes me consider an organic bee hive for the future.

Suburban Hermit of Fayetteville, signing off.
