June 27, 2012

Wow, how did so many days go by without taking any pictures? I can't recall a reason. From looking at the pictures, I apparently did a LOT of work and somehow lost the functions in my hands to operate a camera. I'll blame the humidity.

From what I can determine, I performed three acts of labor. None involved cleaning out horse stables, but there is a chance that that might be in my future.

First, instead of chipping up all of my slash, aka: prunings, I decided to bury it in the loop-beds. I read in several permaculture books that burying slash and other types of organics will act like a sponge to regulate moisture, a temperature regulator as it decays, and a food source for plants, again, as it decays.
Second, I added outer loops to both ends of the wall. They add a nice transition and create small beds.

On the lower loop, if you will remember, I was concerned about the wall being too high. I decided that it was, indeed, too high and moved the top two layers back. It has a nice offset look. I prepared this bed differently. After burying the slash, I topped it off with a layer of newspaper, then leaves and wood mulch, made by my xooxahornaphone. Finally, I planted the seedlings that I had been growing on the patio. Squash and gourds, I believe.

Finally, the side bed, located to the right of the main ramp. This helps the ramp keep its shape. And it's border also, kind of, lines up with the doors of the storage shed.

Still can't believe how much undocumented work I did.

Suburban Hermit of Fayetteville signing off.
